The Plan of Action
The IQAC in its meeting held on 19th
July 2006 took up the review of the plan of action for 2006-07 that was
envisaged in the past meeting of IQAC. In the light of this action plan,
outcome of the execution was periodically monitored and timely follow up
actions were initiated. Key role players at all levels were involved in the
process.

yeast and filamentous fungi with National Chemical Laboratory, and with IRSHA
on micro-propagation of selected medicinal plants for distribution to farmers
under NAIP project.
Extension activities:

tissue culture project was initiated in collaboration with Finolex Plassion
Industries India Ltd.

Academic activities:
·
College
organized 13 continuing education programs/workshops and seminars for
professional development of faculty and students to upgrade their knowledge.
·
The
Indian Dental Conference with 3000 participants and delegates from all over the
country was organized.
·
Pre-conference
course of Indian Society of Periodontology was conducted.
Research activities:
·
Six
previously approved projects were continued as longitudinal studies.
Extension activities:
·
Nineteen
dental check-up camps were conducted with 2705
patients examined and benefited and importance of oral hygiene was explained.
·
The
department of Pedodontics conducted an in-house dental camp wherein 68 patients
from the Katraj village and Gujarwadi were diagnosed and necessary treatment
procedures were carried out.
·
NSS
activities like Blood donation camp, Dental check-up camp, Tree plantation
programme, street play competitions etc. were organized to inculcate sense of
social responsibility among the students.
·
World
health day, Anti-tobacco day, Oral hygiene day and Anti-AIDS day were observed
and charts, poster were displayed and camps were conducted at various places in
and outside the campus to increase awareness about these issues.
Co-Curricular:
NSS DAY was celebrated by organizing
street play competition on following themes: Current politics, Dentistry- 50
years from now, Dynamic education, Misconcepts in dentistry, Population
explosion. Also, a lecture was organized on “Doctor-patient relationship”.

Environment Education and Research, Pune
Academic activities:
·
Teaching
methodologies was developed to enhance the ability to conceptualize and develop
strategies for sustainable use of environmental resources.
·
Every
Friday, environment documentary is screened focusing on the current issues.
·
Field
visits to industries and natural eco-systems are arranged as a compulsory part
of the course.
·
Eleven field visits were arranged to
understand Environment conservation initiatives, Forest ecosystem and its
conservation, Plant conservation, Role of organizations in biodiversity
conservation, Sewage treatment, etc.
·
Joint
field work was organized to understand problems of Pune and fringe areas of
Pune.
·
One
Guest lecture from national and five guest lectures from international speakers
were arranged.
Research & Extension activities:

Two
research projects entitled:
i)
Conservation
and Education for critically important national parks and wild life sanctuaries
through comprehensive environmental education programme
ii)
An
action oriented local specific conservation awareness programme for prioritized
wetlands in Maharashtra are currently ongoing, funded by India-Canada
Environmental facility and Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of
India respectively. The total funding
received for the both the projects was amounts to Rs. 94.3 lacs

of Biochemistry started ‘Problem-based Learning’ for the first year MBBS

of Community Medicine gave hands-on experience to the students about community

Research activities:

Department of Pharmacology has undertaken two research projects in collaboration
with BVU Ayurved College and BVU Dental College, Pune.

trial on valsartan in pediatrics hypertensive patients was undertaken in the
age group of 1-5 years, under sponsorship of Novartis International.
·
A
clinical trial on DTPw-HB-Hib vaccine of Serum Institute of India ltd. Pune in
children was conducted in aged 6-14 weeks.
·
Phase
IV clinical study of DTP vaccine was conducted.
·
A
study to assess efficacy and safety of ORT in combination with spores of
Bacillus clausii in the treatment of acute diarrhea in children, under
sponsorship of Sanofi Syntholab.

Apart
from regular programmes of previous
year, the following activities were undertaken:
Academics activities:

Conducted
a district level workshop on “Empowerment of Nurses” to discuss various issues
to make the nurses competent and self sufficient to deliver nursing services.

district level workshops were organized by the First Year M.Sc. Nursing
students.

Practical
classes in Diet Planning for Patients were introduced in the second Year B.Sc.
Nursing in this academic year, which were subsequently used for public health

Community Extension activities:

on Current Affairs have been introduced as an essential component in the course
structure and three faculty members participated in this programme.

Winter
Training in industries was introduced for MBA (HR) students.
· Corporate Utsav: Corporate Utsav 2006 was organized. The participants were students from I Year BBA. The event exhibited students’ business skills highlighting their creative and innovative ideas, persuasive communication, realistic planning and bringing together individual contributions to ensure that the team makes decisions.

Vigyapan Mela: An Ad exhibition was held for BBA students. The event depicted creativity
in preparing ads for various companies and the theme behind such creations.
·
IT Week: An IT week was organized for IT
students. There were many events organized for the students, such as Debate, IT
quiz, AD mad show, technical writing, etc.
·
Workshops: Two workshops were organized on Data
Structure and SAS.
·
Ojas 2006: A paper
presentation competition was organized.
·
Case Study Competition: A case
study competition was organized. Participating students were given a case and
were asked to analyze and provide alternatives to seek a meaningful solution.

Finesse: A paper presentation competition was
organized on core areas of management.

entrepreneurship skills.

are required to undertake a project in a reputed business organization or
industrial unit for a minimum period of 50 days in a particular academic year.

lectures by successful entrepreneurs and industrialists were arranged on
Entrepreneurship development, Risk analysis and management, Industrial
relations, Software project management, Business analytics management
information system and Domain expertise.

4) INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAMMES STARTED
With
the experience gained on interdisciplinary research projects and employment
potential of the market, several interdisciplinary programmes are being
conceived to be started in different constituent units.
· College of Ayurved started Certificate Course in Yoga and Naturopathy (CNYS) in collaboration with Faculty of Nature Cure, Pune.

The Diploma and Certificate courses
in Banking / Marketing are launched for the students from Arts faculty.
5) EXAMINATION REFORMS IMPLEMENTED
The
examination reform is a continuous process.
The existing systems and procedures are reviewed periodically and the
changes / amendments are made as and when necessary. The University has
continued the previous examination reforms and the following reforms have been
