PART A

 

The Plan of Action

 

The IQAC in its meeting held on 16 June, 2008 took up the review of the plan of action for 2008-09 that was envisaged in the past meeting of IQAC. In the light of this action plan and the 5-year perspective plan of the University drafted in the year 2004-2005, outcome of the execution was periodically monitored and timely follow up actions were initiated. Key role players at all levels were involved in the process.

·    A theoretical orientation programme on course structure, contents of field work, procedure of field work, field work supervision, office administration, functioning of the library and computer lab was organized for the MSW-I year students.

·    Field exposure visits: SOS Balgram Children's Village, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Udyog Kendra, Pune Municipal Corporation’s Urban Community Development, BAIF, Annapurna Parivar, etc.

·    Study tours were arranged to Mitra Wadi Project, Pragati Pratisthan, Ashram School for Tribal Children, Sarvahara Andolan, Matrumandir at Javhar, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri.

·    Twenty-two students of MSW specializing in FCW went on a 10-day study tour to Kerala to visit Snehanilayam, Janseva Sisubhavan, Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan, Welfare Services, Kusumagiri Mental Health Centre, Navajyothi Autistic Centre, and Pallurthy Relief Settlement.

·    The Field Work Agency Supervisors Meet was convened at the Institute to update, review and standardize the Field Work Training Programme, in order to develop and strengthen field work programme of the Institute.

·    MSW students reviewed 10 newly published books.

·    Ten guest lectures (4 international and 6 national) were arranged for students on topics such Habitat management, Importance of wetlands, Wildlife and landscape ecology, Modeling of species distribution, Clean development mechanism processes, Customization in ArcGIS, etc.

·    Department of Community Medicine implemented community-based innovative projects during Green Games initiatives at Commonwealth Youth Games 2008.

·    Orientation Programmes were arranged for newly admitted and 3rd semester students on medical education.

·    MET Cell conducted a lecture for I MBBS students on Developing examination skills.

·    Patent on “Teaching stethoscope innovation in clinical teaching aids” was filed.

 

·    Group discussions and role plays simulate patient-practitioner interaction facilitating over all development of student.

·    Conducted module presentations and online training programme “Master mind in campus” contact lens training programme for optometry students in collaboration with Bausch & Lomb and Bausch & Lomb University.

·    Symposium on Community Optometry and Ophthalmology was conducted successfully.

·    Conducted Student Trial Examinations with International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE), which helped students acquire value-added qualification.

·    Thirteen continuing education programs/ workshops and seminars for professional development of faculty and students were organized.

·    A workshop  involving all the faculty members was organized to develop the revised BDS syllabus.

·    A new wing is being made available for postgraduate and research activities.

·    Two guest lectures on Importance of sports in life and Government policy in sports.

·    Study tour was organized to Commonwealth Youth Games.

·    Clinical sessions were conducted by interns and teachers in seminar hall.

·    Extended help to young Physicians to  understand how to treat judiciously & rationally as a true practitioner of the ‘Healing Art’.

·    All the teachers deliberated on the new syllabi proposed by CCIM. Their suggestions were compiled and submitted to CCIM.

·    Four educational films were prepared.

·    Inter-departmental collaboration was developed between Kayachikitsa and RSBKV for clinical exposure to PG students and also between Agadtantra and RSBKV for the benefit of PG students.

·    Restructuring of M.Sc. curriculum and evaluation measures as per the INC syllabus and requirement.

·    Facilitated M.Sc. students in developing nursing process based on nursing theories.

·    Conducted national level workshop on nursing theories.

Poona College of Pharmacy, Pune

·    Permission from Pharmacy Council of India to start Pharm. D. programme was obtained.  This is the first college in India to have received a permission to launch this course at the University level.

·    B. Pharm. syllabus for semesters VII and VIII was developed.

·    Academic calendar prepared and implemented by teachers.

·    Individual teacher prepared teaching plan and strictly followed to complete the syllabus in time.

·    Introduction of compulsory industrial training programme for one month for the students for technological and industrial exposure.

Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship Development, Pune

·    Three-days induction programme for MBS students was organized. This was also addressed by external experts.

·    A week-long induction programme was arranged for BBA and BCA students addressed by external experts and screening of film ‘Inconvenient Truth’ on global warming.

·    In accordance with the suggestion of IQAC, 2 workshops were arranged on designing the revised course structure of MCA and BCA courses.

·    The faculty was also actively involved in preparation of MBA (IT), MBA (BT), and MBA (BA) courses, which are interdisciplinary in nature.

·    Broad aspects of corporate strategy were instilled into students by inputs through case studies, industrial visits, summer and winter training, presentations on business environment, and role plays on business cases.

·    Syllabus was revised keeping in view the changing environment.

·    Nine guest lectures were arranged on topics such as Six Sigma system, Retail marketing, Business negotiation skills, ISO 9000 quality system, etc.

Interactive Research School for Health Affairs, Pune

·    Five fellows registered for Ph.D.

·    To establish the role of maternal micronutrients during pregnancy with special reference to fetal origin of adult diseases: Four projects on various aspects of fetal origin of adult diseases were submitted to DBT, New Delhi.

 

·    Disease intervention through omega-3 nutrition: Towards enriching vegetables and cereals with omega33 fatty acids: A new Omega-6 desaturase gene was identified and isolated from flax, DNA sequence of this new gene was established and patent was filed, Primary transgenic okra plants developed in collaboration with MAHYCO Seeds Pvt. Ltd. Jalna, and a new project in collaboration with Modern College, Pune was sanctioned by DBT, New Delhi.

·    Disease intervention through herbal medicine: A thermo reversible anti-inflammatory gel was prepared for rectal application in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, Efficacy of this formulation was tested in rat models, and 3 projects were submitted to National Medicinal Plant Board, New Delhi.

·    Cell and Translational Research Division: Anticancer potential of omega-3 fatty acids has been initiated involving in-depth molecular studies on tumor regulatory mechanisms, 1 project on the ‘Use of nano materials in targeted drug delivery in cancer’ has been initiated in collaboration with Nanotechnology division of Fergusson College, Pune, and 2 projects were submitted to Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi.

·    Twelve guest lectures were arranged.

·    Eighteen subject-related site visits were organized e.g. to Ferrocrete Construction for M.Arch, Kindergartens for SY B.Arch and Slum rehabilitation projects in Pune.

 

·    Three study tours were conducted to study ancient and contemporary Indian architecture.

·    Exhibition of art installation was organized by final year students.

Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Pune

·    The Food Production, Front Office, F & B, Generic skills and House Keeping theory and practicals courses were designed to develop technical skills in food preparation, such as Food Production, Front Office, F&B Generic skills and House keeping theory.

·    The students were trained with patisserie, Gardemanger work and plate presentation along with practicing proper sanitation procedures as per Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines.

·    Two guest lectures by top management staff from hotel industry were arranged on Importance of budgeting in housekeeping operations and challenges in the operations of an industrial canteen.

·    Three demonstrations by renowned chefs from 5-star hotels were organized on Classical French Cuisine, Vegetable carvings and Cake and Chocolate decoration.

·    Sixteen orientation field visits for orientation to hotels and hospitality-related industries were paid.

·    Industrial training, vacation training and outdoor catering functions for students were arranged.

·    This college was started functioning from this academic year, with the permission of Nursing Council of India and the Government of Maharashtra.  Orientation to physical set-up, rules, regulations, policies and welfare facilities to newly admitted students, teaching and supporting staff was organized.

·    Practical exposure in hospital and community field (urban and rural area) was provided.

·    Cookery classes were conducted under the guidance of teaching faculty.

·    Home to home survey, selection of 4 families for the heath related issues, referring those families for the further heath services, participation in PHC immunization clinic and family planning clinic were carried out.

·    Rally on ‘World Population Day’ and on ‘World Diabetes day’ was conducted.

 

·    Programme for creating environment awareness was organized by involving Commonwealth Youth Games mascot ‘Jigger’.

·    Conducted eye check-up camps and eye care awareness in urban and rural areas were conducted.

·    Screening programmes were conducted at Muktangan School, Sardar Dastoor School, and BV English Medium High School at Pune.

·    Mobile eye care services continued with Deep Griha charitable trust.

·    Eye donation awareness programme were arranged, Pledge was administered from 130 individuals.
