Bharati Vidyapeeth University’s New Law College is one of the top law schools in India, established in 1978. It was inaugurated at the hands of Hon. Mr. Justice Y.V. Chandrachud, the then Chief Justice of India. The foundation stone of the New Law College building was laid down in the year 2004 at the hands of the then Chief Justice of India Hon. Mr. Justice K.G. Balakrishnan. The new building was inaugurated in the year 2005 at the hands of Hon. Mr. Justice R.C. Lahoti, the then Chief Justice of India. The college celebrated its silver jubilee in 2003. The college has a spacious seven-storied independent building with a large Auditorium, separate Moot Court Room, Human Rights Cell, Cyber Cell, Women Empowerment Cell, Legal Aid Cell, Placement Cell and Foreign Students Cell. Its Library is rich with classic, as well as, recent works on law and legal systems. It has a collection of online databases like SCC online, Manupatra, West Law, Lexis - Nexis besides back volumes of reputed law journals, law reports and reference books, including (i) All England Law Reports (ii) United States Supreme Courts Reports (136 volumes) and (iii) Cropus Juris Secondum (150 volumes). It provides free internet facility to students through its cyber cell. The application of information technology and e-learning is the specialty of the college. The faculty members are highly qualified and competent. Teaching is done by renowned academicians, senior lawyers and retired judges. The faculty of the college participates regularly in national and international conferences. The college publishes a Law Journal “Justicia” annually. The college has been ranked 13th among 900 Law Colleges in India by a survey conducted by India Today in 2005 on the criteria of revised curriculum, teaching staff, course, research, library and placement. The LL.M. programme which is research oriented, is conducted at the Centre for Postgraduate Studies in Law located in the college. Students can opt for specializations in Human Rights or Business Law. The Centre also offers Ph.D. Programme in Lawand Diploma in various specializations. The college imparts practical training through Moot Courts and Legal Aid programmes. These programmes aim at giving practical legal training to the students. The programmes are designed to expose the students to the different aspects of legal work and procedures in the chambers of Lawyers, Courts, Lok Adalats, Administrative Offices, Legal Aid Centres, Legal Literacy Camps and the like. The college conducts regular National Seminars and Symposia and moot court competitions. Every year, the college organizes Judicial Convoke, Judicial Colloquia, in which eminent jurists, judges and lawyers of Supreme Court and High Courts deliver legal discourse and interact with the students of law. More than seventy judges from Supreme Court and High Courts have visited New Law College at Judicial Colloquia from 2002 to 20013. The college caters to the needs of students to face international challenges and help them in becoming international lawyers. The academic environment is ofglobal standards; world class research facilities and teaching through judicial officers makes the college one of the premier institutes of legal education in India. Students are trained to participate in International Moot Court Competitions, Legal Aid and Social Justice Programmes. Internship in Supreme Court placement with reputed multinational companies, selection of students for Post Graduation courses in renowned Universities abroad attracts the students to pursue legal education in New Law College. The college has associated and collaborated with renowned universities in UK, USA through participation in international moot court competitions. The college is associated with Oxford University, University of Sussex, The Law Society of England & Wales, King’s College, London, John Marshall Law School, Chicago, USA. The College is also a recognised centre of Bharati Vidyapeeth University offering Distance Education learning mode programme at post graduate and Diploma levels. The main aim of offering master of laws i.e. LL.M. is to cater needs of thousands of advocates who desire exposure in a special branch of law while continuing practice. The P.G. level programme helps lawyers, teachers, members of judiciary, employees and solicitors to have in-depth study of their area of specilization. The college has been offering distance education programmes since 2004. So far, more than 5000 student across the country have availed the distance learning mode. Through distance education, the college has promoted diploma in Intellectual Property Law, Labour Law & Taxation Law. The distance education learning at law college offers regular coaching through contact class, quality study material, promotion of research, E-Learning through video conferencing and collaborative programmes through association with renowned institutions in the country and abroad.

Judicial Colloquia- The college has been organizing Judicial Colloquia from year 2000. Since then, 11 former Chief Justices of India, 28 Supreme Court Judges, 24 High Court Judges, several Senior Advocates have graced judicial Colloquia.
Justice P. N. Bhagwati 2nd International Moot Court Competition on Human Rights is one of its kinds in India wherein 40 national teams from top law schools and 15 international teams from UK, Mauritius and USA are invited to participate.
