Profile
Started in 1981, our Poona College of Pharmacy is one of the leading colleges of Pharmacy in the country. It was then the first Pharmacy College to have been started in the jurisdiction of University of Pune, with which it had permanent affiliation. The College conducts academic programme leading to 4 year B.Pharm degree. It offers M.Pharm.in following specializations:
1. Pharmaceutics
2. Pharmaceutical Chemistry
3. Pharmacology
4. Pharmacognosy
5. Quality Assurance Techniques
6. Pharmaceutical Biotechnology
Those students who are GPAT qualified and who are admitted to the M.Pharm. programme with the above mentioned specializations are eligible to get AICTE fellowships. The College offers Ph.D. programmes in all above specializations of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The College has started Pharm. D.( 6 Years ) and Pharm. D. ( Post Baccalaurate ) ( 3 years ) Programmes from the academic year 2009 - 10. Our college is the only college in this region to start this course.
The College also runs a job oriented Postgraduate Diploma :Advanced Diploma in Technical and Analytical Chemistry ( ADTAC ) ( 1 ˝ years )
The college has a total built up area of 85,000 sq.feet . The College building is spacious, functional and well furnished. It has separate undergraduate and postgraduate laboratories having state of the art equipments, which are regularly updated. These laboratories are recognized as Public Testing Laboratories by the Government of Maharashtra. They offer analytical and testing services to a large number of pharmaceutical industries in and around Pune. The College has constructed a separate building as “Research Block” in which sophisticated instruments and equipments for advanced Pharmaceutical research are located.
The library of the College needs a special mention. It has a huge collection of books on Pharmaceutical Sciences. It is fully computerized and is equipped with the Internet facility. The Library is digitalized through which students and faculty members have access to more than 1000 international journals and thousands of reference books by UGC, JCCC and UGC inflibnet. The stupendous library of the college is well built on an area of 2000 sq.feet and has around 15,000 books, 16 international and 35 national journals.
The College is grant-in-aid institute from the Government of Maharashtra. The college and its degrees have approval of the Pharmacy Council of India, the AICTE and other statutory bodies. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission under section 12 ( B ) and 2 ( f ) of its Act. The University Grants Commission has identified this College for an award of Special Assistance Programme ( SAP ) under which the College gets substantive financial assistance for its further development. It is further a matter of pride for us that our College has been selected by the AICTE for its “Quality Improvement Programme” for the Pharmacy teachers. This is one of the 10 such centers, approved by AICTE in the country and the only one in Maharashtra. AICTE has also approved an Industry Insitute Partnership Cell ( IIPC ) for promoting interacation with Industry.
The College has collaborative arrangements with a number of drug manufacturing companies and Universities. Among them the prominent ones are Advanced Biochemical, Dynamis ( USA ), Indus Biotech ( Pune ), Tuba Herbals ( Mumbai ), Bioved ( Ayurcore USA ) , Bradford University UK, School of Pharmacy, University of London etc. The students are thus provided with opportunities for hands on training in drug manufacturing. The members of its faculty have completed several research projects and are also working on numerous other projects funded by national funding agencies such as AICTE, UGC, DST, DRDO, DBT, Government of India and others.
The faculty members of the College is a congregation of scholars with a laudable track record as teachers, trainers and researchers. Their research work has brought the distinction to the College of having as many as 35 patents. Most of them are Ph.D. holders and have acclaimed publications to their credit. The faculty has over 200 national and 300 international publications. College is a vibrant centre of such academic activities as national and international conferences and seminars. We also conduct Quality Improvement Programmes for Pharmacy Teachers from all over India.
The high level of academic excellence the College has achieved is vouched by the fact that the National Board of Accreditation of the AICTE has given to its B. Pharm. programme 5 years accreditation in its assessment. Poona College of Pharmacy as a constituent unit of Bharati Vidyapeeth University is accreditated with A grade and it is also an ISO-9001-2008 certified institute.
