About Department

Department of Computer Science and Engineering B.TECH(CS&E) program have recently revised the curriculum. Vocational courses, MOOCs and projects-based learning has been included as part of the new syllabus. Student are exposed to industrial environment through 60 days internship. Apart from routine academic the department is associated with several other academic activities like conducting seminars, workshops, conferences, expert lectures etc. through which it updates the practical aspects through Industry -Institute interaction. Under the new curriculum, Industry professionals are allocated with one course in each semester from third year onwards. The Institute and department have been granted with one patent in the year 2020-2021.

To impart state of the art knowledge to the student faculties have also constantly upgraded their knowledge becoming highly qualified competent. There are 03 faculties in the department with Doctoral degree and 03 faculties are pursuing Ph.D.

As a result of Computer Science and Engineering department initiative, the institute has received the status of VMware IT Academy which is reflected to be a Center of Excellence.

The department has its student’s association –Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DCSE) to explore the talents of students related to technical as well as nontechnical activities. The department is also very active in social activities such as Tree plantation, Swacha Bharat Abhiyan, Visits to orphanage etc.

B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering

Duration: 4 Years

Program Educational Objectives (PEO):

The students of B.TECH. (Computer Science and Engineering), after graduating will able to,

  • 1. Demonstrate technical and professional competencies by applying Engineering Fundamentals, knowledge of computing and technologies.
  • 2. Exhibit effective personality, good communication and team building skills
  • 3. Adopt to the latest trends in the field of computer science and engineering.

Program Outcomes (PO):

Students will be able to:

  • Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering, and computing to provide a solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Identify, analyse complex engineering problems to derive conclusions using computer science and engineering knowledge.
  • Outline resolutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Use existing research knowledge and research techniques including design of experiments, data analysis, and synthesis to provide valid inferences.
  • Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools.
  • Apply inferences obtained by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the subsequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • Recognize the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts to demonstrate the knowledge for sustainable development.
  • Apply ethical principles and execute professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  • Work effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary surroundings.
  • Talk effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations.

Program Specific Objectives(PSO):

  • To design, develop and implement computer programs on hardware towards solving problems.
  • To employ expertise and ethical practice through continuing intellectual growth and adapting to the working environment

Curriculum Features (2021):

  • The curriculum of program is industry oriented. 
  • The program has 230 credits spread over 8 semesters (25 Credits per semester).
  • Introduction of Industry Offered Elective in each semester of 4th Year (Sem VII & VIII).
  • Six Core elective courses spread over third and fourth year.
  • Industrial project (8 weeks) in the 4th year will be supported different companies.
  • Industrial training (4 weeks) in the 3rd year will be supported various componies
  • The curriculum is developed by closely working with eminent professionals from the industry and Academia. 
  • The students will learn emerging technologies and industry relevant topics. This will enable them more relevant to the industry standards and improve their employability.
  • 60 days internship is introduced after Semester VI.
  • Curriculum also empowers research aptitude and inclination in students by introducing mini project in third year (sem-V) and research paper publication in semester VII.
  • Collaborative learning enables students to identify and develop their assortment of competencies which is achieved through tutorials in the curriculum.
  • Curriculum emphasis on practicing project-based learning that facilitates student’s engagement, student collaboration and improving professional competencies.
  • To invoke positive thoughts, improving physical health, social contribution and balancing emotional quotient in students, social activities has been introduced in this curriculum.
  • Project Based Learning are included in the curriculum to facilitate the students a platform to practically implement their learning to solve real-world problems.
  • NPTEL/MOOCs included in curriculum to facilitate self-learning and choose interested specialization to explore by students.

Program Features

  • Curriculum encompasses Foundational Knowledge areas like Oral & Written Communication, Problem Solving, Self-Learning and Research and Computing Knowledge Areas – Hardware, System Architecture and Infrastructure, System modelling, Software Fundamentals and Development, User and Organization.
  • Curriculum embraces 20 courses of Foundational and Professional knowledge areas and 22 courses of Computing knowledge areas.
  • Curriculum has a good spread of courses across various elemental facets of computer engineering and IT.
  • Curriculum includes 3% of hardware related courses, 1% courses of Users and Organization, 20% course of software fundamentals, 25% courses cover Software development, 15% course cover software modelling and 36% courses cover system architecture and infrastructure.
  • Curriculum includes courses related to Computational thinking, algorithmic thinking, design thinking and System thinking enabling student to accelerate thinking abilities in the computing discipline and adapt to the changing technologies scenarios and real time problems.
  • Curriculum emphasis on Collaborative Learning through blending research and industry relevant courses.
  • The curriculum is in accordance with the Industry and Trends in Technology.
  • Curriculum Thrusts on strong lab-based learning activities by introducing total ten laboratory courses.
  • Active participation by Industry professionals in engaging Industry relevant courses from second year onwards thus enabling blended learning.
  • Curriculum includes courses like: Natural Language Processing, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning etc. which are the emerging trends in the field of computing.
  • The curriculum is well balanced between the engineering foundational courses, essential computing courses and emerging computing trends spanned across eight semesters.
  • Curriculum aids students to gain strong foundation in mathematics required for computing discipline through five courses spanned across first four semester.
  • Vocational courses included in the curriculum directs the students to specialize in a knowledge domain.
  • The vocational courses include courses like Embedded system & IoT, cloud, application and web development, data science, Augmented and Virtual reality.
