Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) College of Architecture (BVDUCOA), Pune is a pioneering institute offering quality education in architecture since 1994.

As a part of Bharati Vidyapeeth (our parent body), we contribute towards the vision Social Transformation through Dynamic Education of our Founder Hon. Dr. Patangrao Kadam by nurturing the spirit of professional education as a source and a system to shape the individuals to become competent professionals and responsible human beings of the society.

BVDUCOA, being the 3rd oldest institute of architecture in the city has nurtured generations of budding architects with Empathy, Sensitivity, Design Thinking Skills, Technical expertise, Social Awareness, Economic literacy and Advanced tools &emp; Technology to successfully evolve as competent and industry ready professionals and future leaders.

The Vision of the Institute is to,

“Inculcate Sensitivity towards Sustainable Built Environment through Architectural Education”

and mission is,

“To inculcate knowledge, skills, values and ethics to create ‘socially responsible’, ‘environmentally sensitive’, ‘economically conscious’, architectural professionals. To promote innovations and research for a sustainable built environment ”.

We inculcate these values in our students right from the formative years. Our student centric and inclusive approach, dynamic course curriculum, innovative teaching and learning methodology, research-oriented studio policy, guided exposure visits, academia and industry interface initiatives, numerous national and international collaborations are the strengths which has kept us at the forefront of architecture education.

The institute is headed by Prof. Dr. Kavita Murugkar, a nationally renowned academician and expert in Inclusive Design. Under her leadership, the dedicated and experienced core faculty team with diverse specializations and seasoned pool of professionals serving as visiting faculty members ably supported by an experienced administration team, strive and work in tandem to achieve the objectives.

BVDUCOA in its formative years was affiliated to Pune University and then came under the ambit of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) in 2005.

Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) is accredited with A+ grade (2017) by NAAC and has category-I university status by UGC.

Our master’s degree course in Sustainable Architecture, started in 2006, was a first of its kind program in India.

The intake of B.Arch increased to 80 in 2010.

The curriculum is constantly upgraded by taking feedback from the various stakeholders to meet the demand of the profession. The curriculum is student centric offering choice-based credits system and outcome-based education. Apart from classroom teaching, students are provided with a conducive environment where they learn from peers, professionals and through participation in various competitions, attending seminars and workshops in house and conducted jointly with different forums. The learning continues through site visits, study tours and studios conducted outdoors. One such activity is “Learning Out Of The Box (LOOTB).”

Our students have won numerous competitions & trophies and presented papers in conferences at state and national level.

BVDUCOA offers state of the art infrastructure, sports and cultural facilities and modern hostel facilities to facilitate the best learning environment, aids, and technology for the students. Students from all over the country seek admission here thus offering a culturally rich and diverse peer group for learning. Similarly, our alumni are practicing and working across the globe.

Since its inception the institute has been involved with academia and industry of repute to provide up to date knowledge and rich learning experiences.
Through collaborations with various international universities such as Queen’s university, Canada, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand and University of Sunshine coast, Australia, many joint studios, exchange of students and faculty, and international study tours have been conducted.

The institute has an IGBC and ISLE student’s chapter and an MoU with ASSOCHAM (GEM). Through such industry engagements BVDUCOA regularly conducts conferences, webinars and industrial visits to promote energy conservation in the built environment. We started the Centre for Energy Conservation Studies (CECS) in 2001 and it is committed to ‘energy conservation’ and ‘environment protection.’ Through CECS we are promoting Energy Conservation in Buildings by conducting awareness programs, providing consultancy and organizing workshops for students, professionals and officials. Few of these designs have won energy conservation awards by the state government. They have also won the 1st Prize in S.B.T.C. Design Competition, organized by USAID, IIEC (International Institute for Energy Conservation) & PCMC.
Another prestigious award won is the IGBC 6th green championship award under the category of 'Institute encouraging IGBC Accredited Professionals'.
The institute also has a Centre for inclusive design and research (CIDR) to promote Inclusion and empowerment of marginalized sections of the society including persons with disabilities by leveraging the power of design.
The institute also has its own consultancy cell which brings opportunities to work on live projects for its students as well as a placement cell to help students get good internship opportunities during the course.

One amongst its pioneering activities is also the city-wide Pune Biennale organized in 2015 and 2017; which is the 2nd such in the country and 1st such - led by a university. It created history by bringing together art, architecture and design for enhancing visual aesthetics in Pune by engaging citizens, students, organizations and experts from various fields.
