The Department of Anaesthesiology was established in 1991. It is located on the third floor of the Bharati Hospital adjacent to the main OT complex. It started its postgraduate courses in August 2003. Currently, the department is qualified to train 14 Postgraduate students for the MD programme.

The post graduate students are from all over India. They undergo training in operation theatres, Intensive Care Units, as well as in providing anaesthesia outside the operation theatres such as cathlab, radiology suites, Endoscopy and ECT rooms. They are exposed to every speciality and superspeciality branch including neuro surgery, vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, paediatric surgery and interventional radiology.

The postgraduate training programme conducted by the department is all- inclusive, covering all the important topics in anaesthesia and is conducted in the form of journal clubs, seminars, case presentations, lectures and tutorials. The department also runs structured Fellowship courses in pain and paediatric anaesthesia. It had conducted a workshop for the International Pain Conference ICRAPAIN2017.

The department provides education as well as training to undergraduate students. We have made a simulation based training programme for the undergraduate students to orient and impart them with the practical skills.

The Department has an excellent infrastructure with state-of-the-art modern operation theaters equipped with the latest anaesthesia work stations, faculty rooms, a seminar room, a library, and a museum. There is also a facility of pain clinic with a full-time interventional pain specialist. The dedicated faculty and staff members are committed to providing quality medical care. The teamwork of the faculty, the staff members, and the postgraduates is responsible for the development of the department.
