Overview :

Our lab is dedicated to advancing understanding, prevention, and treatment strategies for obesity and diabetes and associated disorders. We aim to integrate cutting-edge biomedical research, traditional medicine principles, and clinical expertise to address the complex challenges posed by these prevalent and interconnected conditions.

Our research focuses on various aspects of Obesity and Diabetes through preclinical and clinical research. We investigate the cellular, physiological and molecular, mechanisms underlying obesity, insulin resistance, and diabetes. We are mainly involved in evaluating integrative medicines interventions aimed at preventing obesity, diabetes, and related complications. Till date, our department has worked on the impact of lifestyle interventions like yoga in prediabetes, evaluated the efficacy and safety of traditional medicinal agents in the treatment of obesity and diabetes. We have also conducted preclinical and clinical studies to assess effective therapeutics, including anti-diabetic medications, anti-obesity drugs, and metabolic modulators. Triphala and Trimad were explored in adipose dysfunction and to evaluate their mechanism of action. Similarly Fenugreeks varieties were also explored as metabolic modulator in healthy individuals etc. Additionally, the department is exploring the role of genetics in disease risk of diabetes by SNPs studies and use of AI based tool to explore the prediction of diabetes. We have received research funding’s from government agencies like DST-SATYAM, Ayush and ICMR. Our lab also provides clinical services to pharmaceutical companies.
