About Department

Department of General Medicine was established at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University Medical College, Pune in December 1990.

The department has been home to several renowned stalwarts in the field of Medicine. At present Dr. (Col). V. P. Singh is the Head of the Department. It is one of the most vibrant and active departments dedicated to providing clinical training to undergraduate and postgraduate students and state-of-the-art patient care.

Goals

To educate and train students in the discipline of General Medicine and to expand the body of knowledge of this scientific field through clinical interaction and research.

To prepare caring physicians who have the capacity to practice evidence based medicine and use the emerging technologies.

To provide holistic affordable, state of the art, care to patient, and to train doctors who are updated, empathetic and aware of emerging medical trends and have the capacity to adapt them to the needs to the patients

Dr. (Mrs.) Arundhati Diwan - has completed a Certificate course in Management of Thyroid Disorders - CCMTD - September 15 of India & Chellaram Diabetes Institute & Completed Training in Fellowship in Palliative Care Cipla Pune

  • Awarded by the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) for creating awareness of diabetes in the community.
  • Awarded the best correspondence first prize JAPI 2012-13 year
  • Received the 1st prize in Quiz in MAPCON 2014 by Association of Physicians of India, Mumbai
  • Received 1st prize for Best Correspondence entitled “History Taking: Still a Valuable Tool in Today’s Era of Modern Medicine in 2013.

Dr. Shashikala Sangle - Member of Institutional Ethical Committee as Physician, at BVDUMC, Pune

Dr. Priti Dave – Medicine Coordinator for Medical Education Unit .PG coordinator from last 12 years. Was member of central NAAC, RAR, AQAR committee, and Institute Ethical Committee. Was MCI coordinator for five years.

  • Fellowship in Diabetes Mellitus from MV Mohan Institute of Diabetology Chennai
  • Has attended Curriculum Revision workshop
  • One of the author in making standard treatment protocol for Maharashtra Government.

Dr. Prachee Makashir - Professor of Medicine Completed IDCCM (Indian Diploma in Critical Care Medicine ) 2019

Dr. Purwa Doke has completed a 1-year fellowship in Infectious disease from BVDUMC, Pune.

Dr. Sujata Khatal, Associate Professor of Medicine, has secured distinction in the DFID and has been adjudged with Best Project Award in Distance Fellowship in Diabetes Management Programme in April 2017 at Christian Medical College, Vellore.

Dr. Sukanya Dasgupta, Assistant Professor of Medicine, has done MBA from Dr. D.Y.Patil Medical College, Pimpri, Pune, in June 2019.

Dr. Ruturaj Deshpande has completed a Post Graduate Diploma course in Clinical Endocrinology and Diabetes from Batch 2020-21. He has been awarded for securing the first rank in Doctor of Medicine in Summer 2020.

Dr. Krishnapriya Vadlapatla has been awarded for securing the first rank in Doctor of Medicine in Summer 2021.

Dr. Kevin Bora has received the certificate of achievement in the State-level Boy’s Butterfly swimming competition in Luckhorns 2019 held in Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College, Pune.

Dr.Bhagylaxmi Paramshetty has got 2nd Rank in ENVISAGE : The poster presentation competition in the International Medical Conference RESPIRARE 2021 at B.J. Medical College and Sassoon Hospital,Pune was held on 28th December 2021

Dr.Gargee Pore has secured 1st place in the Poster presentation at ETHOS 2021-Interbational Bioethics and Medical Research Conference held virtually from 12th to 16th November 2021

Highlights

  • Training of Undergraduate students to make them efficient and responsible doctors to work in the society as per current evolving norms.
  • Extensive postgraduate teaching program which consists of bedside teaching & training , Hands on simulation workshops, rotation to various super-specialities like Cardiology, Neurology, Critical Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Nephrology, Oncology, Rheumatology, Hematology, Endocrinology, Infectious diseases to give exposure to recent advances of investigations and management in these fields.
  • Active involvement in patient care by the faculty & Postgraduate students
  • Active participation in various Research projects in addition to teaching, training of students.
  • In these times of COVID pandemic the department has played a very crucial role in the management of serious patients both in COVID wards & Critical Care areas.
  • There is active participation by the faculty & Postgraduate students in various outdoor activities & health camps like Diabetes Detection camp, Hypertension camp, Stroke Awareness, Women’s Health checkup. Various days are celebrated to create awareness among general population like World Diabetes Day, AIDS day, World Kidney Day.
  • Well organized Inter Collegiate Stroke Symposium on Occasion of World Stroke Day by Dept. of Medicine in Collaboration with Neurology Dept.
