Research

Overview

Clinical trials are considered Gold standard to find out newer treatments that work in people and ways to improve health. To conduct Clinical Trials and other health related research, Pediatric Department, Bharati Hospital & Research Centre, established this Clinical Research Unit in year 2005.

The research conducted in this unit is guided by principles laid down by committees at National and International levels. The research is conducted as per the regulations of New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules 2019 G.S.R. 227 (E) and the guidelines given by Indian GCP, ICH GCP and by ICMR for Biomedical Research.

The main thrust area of the ‘Clinical Research Unit’ is conducting various vaccine clinical trials from phase I to Phase IV. Till date vaccines like Pentavalent & Hexavalent vaccines, Pneumococcal vaccine, Rotavirus vaccine, Human PapilomaVirus Vaccine, Measles vaccine, MMR vaccine, Meningococcal vaccine, Japenese Encephalits vaccine etc. have been studied in various trials.

Clinical research Unit is also involved in conducting various surveillance programs like S. Pneumoniae surveillance, Rota virus surveillance and research into growth and development, nutrition etc.

The research team is trained in ICH GCP and is timely updated on the newer regulations for Clinical Trials. It strives hard to keep the quality of research at par with the international standards. The team is formed as per the requirements of the study. The research team consists of Principal Investigator, Co–investigator &/ or Sub-investigator, Research physician, Medical officer, Research coordinators, Pharmacist, Nurse, Lab technicians, Social workers, Fieldworkers etc.

The Clinical Research Unit has the infrastructure required for conducting clinical trials. It has dedicated cold storage facility to store the various vaccines in refrigerators within specified temperature range and deep freezers for storing sera samples, stool samples etc.
