The School of Physiotherapy at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University, Pune, in collaboration with ISMS Group of Institutions, hosted an enlightening guest lecture in the Medical College Auditorium featuring two esteemed speakers from Leeds Beckett University, United Kingdom:
1. Dr. Lawrence Mayhew: An expert in Sport Exercise Medicine and Physiotherapy, delivered a thought-provoking presentation on the alarming rise of ACL injuries among female footballers, questioning whether it is an epidemic, tsunami, or crisis. He discussed the epidemiology of ACL injuries in women's sports, emphasizing the various contributing factors that make female athletes more susceptible. He highlighted effective prevention strategies and rehabilitation protocols, stressing the importance of early intervention and tailored physiotherapy approaches. Dr. Mayhew also explored the latest research and advancements in physiotherapy, providing valuable insights into improving recovery outcomes and reducing the incidence of these injuries.
2. Dr. Alistair Black: An expert in Sport and Exercise Physiology, provided valuable guidance on higher education and career opportunities in the United Kingdom, with a particular focus on studying at Leeds Beckett University. He offered an overview of the various programs available at the university, highlighting their relevance to sport and exercise science, physiotherapy, and allied health sciences. Dr. Black also shared insights into scholarships, the application process, and campus life, helping aspiring students navigate their academic journey. He discussed career prospects in the UK, outlining potential pathways for professionals in the field and emphasizing opportunities for growth and development.
