Audiology deals with hearing and hearing related disorders, while Speech and Language Pathology deals with the normal and abnormal aspects of voice, speech, language and swallowing.
The institute was set up due to the high demand for trained Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists and the corresponding dearth of colleges in India that provide the educational facilities in this field. The main aims were to develop a competent workforce in the field of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (ASLP) and to provide rehabilitation services to individuals with speech-language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders and/or hearing, vestibular disorders.
The programmes offered by SASLP are in accordance with and recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi. Students can opt for an undergraduate programme, Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (B.ASLP) or postgraduate programmes, M.Sc. (Audiology) and M.Sc. (Speech Language Pathology).
Students study under the guidance of qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty. The teaching methods of SASLP encompass both theoretical studies and practical/clinical training to develop both professionally trained and scientifically competent audiologists and speech-language pathologists.
Students will be able to use audio-visual aids such as overhead and LCD projectors during their theoretical studies. Seminars are conducted in class to improve presentation skills of students. Research is an integral part of training and students are trained and encouraged to conduct research projects under the guidance of the staff. SASLP aims to train the students to be responsible, knowledgeable and sensitive clinicians.
In addition to research, the institute also conducts outreach programmes for assessment and rehabilitation of needy along with interdisciplinary team members, NGO’s and volunteers as per the best practices within the vast scope of ASLP.
