BVIEER conducts workshop on Spatial Thinking at DSERT Bengaluru

The sixth Spatial Thinking Workshop was held at DSERT, Bengaluru, bringing together 55 teacher educators from DIETs and Colleges of Teacher Education across Karnataka. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. M. Mohanty, Head of the National Geospatial Programme, DST, Government of India, who emphasised the growing importance of spatial thinking for a data-driven future. Prof. Dr. Shamita Kumar, Project Director, PMU–DST and Principal, BVIEER highlighted the role of geospatial literacy in inquiry-based learning aligned with NEP 2020. Teachers participated in hands-on activities demonstrating how spatial thinking improves student observation, questioning, and problem-solving. The valedictory address by Dr. Jagdeeshwar Rao, Joint Director, DSERT, reaffirmed Karnataka’s commitment to strengthening geospatial education. The workshop supports the National Geospatial Policy 2022 and advances efforts to build spatially literate students who can use the skills for problem solving and localising the Sustainable Development Goals
