The Department of Microbiology was established in 1990 with the aim of providing high-quality education and research training to students. As we have implemented the new CBME syllabus as mandated by NMC

We Offer Programmes Such As

  • Undergraduate - II MBBS and B.Sc. in Lab Science
  • Postgraduate - MD and M.Sc. (Medical Microbiology)
  • Ph.D.
  • D.M.L.T.
  • Fellowship in Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship

To prepare students for careers in academia and industry in the Microbiology domain, the new CBME syllabus follows

  • Infective syndrome based teaching
  • AETCOM module
  • Self-directed learning
overview

Not only Academics but we encourage our students to participate in a host of activities including:

  • Teaching-Learning - Aside from the conventional classroom teaching, we conduct seminars, debates, group discussions, quizzes, guest lectures, and educational visits to enrich the students’ academic experience.
  • Research - We work on STS ICMR projects and conduct workshops and paper/poster presentations at national and state-level conferences.
  • Infection Control - We provide regular and continuous training to the ICNs, Sisters in charge, PGs, etc. in infection control practices, infection control implementation, and biomedical waste management. We also provide surveillance for HAIs, conduct clinical microbiology rounds with infectious disease consultants, and celebrate Hand Hygiene Week to increase awareness.
  • Diagnostic - We encourage participation in the EQAS programme in Bacteriology, Serology with CMC Vellore, and Mycology with PGI Chandigarh.
Goals

To commit to the effective utilisation of resources and to work continually for provision of an infection free environment for both patient and health care workers.

Our Mission

  • To widen the scope of Molecular technology in applied diagnostic microbiology.
  • To introduce recent technology enabling early diagnosis of the clinical condition benefitting patient.

Objectives

  • To provide to the society competent clinical microbiologist who are updated with all recent knowledge in the field of Microbiology
  • To ensure the use of latest diagnostic modalities and techniques of investigations.
  • To formulate policies and protocols on the method of sterilisation and disinfection.
  • To implement the effective antibiotic policy to control the spread of antibiotic resistance.
  • To create awareness among students and Health care workers regarding biomedical waste management.
  • To help the clinician in the diagnosis of infectious diseases and provide guidelines for antibiotic treatment.
