CRPU

The Central research and Publication unit (CRPU) coordinates with all departments in medical college and hospital. The unit facilitates dialogues with different organizations and clinical head of the departments. Assistance will be provided in terms of formation and training of similar research unit in Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Nursing and Dental colleges as and when required.

The main role of the unit is to encourage all departments to undertake research studies, in respective areas, regular monitoring of calls for proposal on various websites, interactions with departments after identifying the call, helping writing proposal and scrutiny of proposal through experts and necessary modifications. The unit also helps in analysis, manuscript writing, editing through panel of experts and finding suitable journals

Preparation and Revision of SOP

The SOP for the Central research and Publication unit (CRPU) at Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed To Be University) Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Pune, is prepared by 1-2 CRPU core members. The SOP draft is reviewed by all the CRPU members, approved & signed by the Chairperson. The SOP is valid for period of two years from the effective date or till the next amendment, whichever is earlier. The SOP version will be updated every two yearly and amendment will be done for any interim revision/s.

Purpose

The purpose of this SOP is to contribute to the effective functioning of the Central research and Publication unit (CRPU) at Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed To Be University) Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Pune.

Authority Under Which CRPU is Constituted

In view of the tremendous growth of research and clinical trials in the institution, the Medical Director, Bharati Hospital and Research Center in 2017, constituted Central Research and Publication Unit.

Composition of CRPU

Faculty from college and hospital along with core members appointed for CRPU will see to the day to day functioning.

Scope

  • The unit will help in hospital based, laboratory investigation related, community based research projects.
  • The unit will search call for proposals from various funding agencies.
  • The unit will coordinate with all the departments in hospital as well as medical college and help in research proposal writing.
  • The unit will also assist for research in to other pathies like Ayurved, Dentistry, Audiology, Physiotherapy etc. whenever required.

Functions of CRPU

UG/PG Academics:

  • Conduct sessions in departments for identifying research ideas and encourage all departments to undertake research projects
  • Check calls for proposal on various websites of funding agencies on regular basis
  • Scrutiny of proposal through experts and necessary modifications
  • Provide the assistance in developing the proposal including the study design, sample size calculations, budget calculations etc. if needed
  • Arrange review meetings to review the proposal for its betterment
  • Have interactions with departments after identifying the call by either party

Clinical Trials:

  • Encourage all clinical departments to undertake clinical trials
  • Contact various national and international Contract Research Organizations (CRO) and sponsors and identify the opportunities of conduct of clinical trials in the hospital
  • Liaison between CROs and HODs of the hospital

UG/PG Academics:

  • Provide guidance regarding orientation to research methods
  • Arrange protocol and manuscript writing workshops
  • Encourage for poster and paper presentations

CRPU REPORT

Academic Year 2020-2021

  • Research Methodology and Manuscript Writing WorkshopAiming to provide training on Research Proposal development this workshop was conducted for four days during 3-6 November 2020 (Half Day each). Topics like Hypothesis, research question, Qualitative research with special reference to FGD, Case-control studies, Cohort studies, Randomized Control Trials, Validity & reliability, Reference search, Mendeley, Manuscript writing were covered. Dr. Vivek Patwardhan, Dr. Jayashree Gothankar, Dr. Sonali Palkar, Dr. Prakash Doke, Dr. Sankar Gorthi, Dr. Gauri Oka, Dr. R. A. Momin, Mr. Karamchand Patil were facilitators. Total 26 participants and CRPU members attended this workshop. Certificates were distributed to participants by the Executive Director.
  • Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical Journal (BVMJ)Aiming to provide dias to disseminate research work, CRPU launched Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical Journal (BVMJ). Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical Journal is an official publication of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be) University Medical College. It is a blind peer-reviewed, open access quarterly journal started in January 2021. The journal publishes original articles, short articles, case reports, case series, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and letter to the editor. The journal accepts research papers from broad, as well as, sub-specialty areas of medical sciences that are deemed to be of practical value for the daily practice of medicine. The journal conforms to the guidelines of COPE and soon will be registered in DOAJ. The journal allows free access to its contents and does not charge any article processing or publication fee. We have applied for ISSN. The journal has received a provisional RNI Number. The permanent number is expected in August 2021. CRPU members, as well as faculty of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to Be) Medical College, are part of the BVMJ Editorial board. CRPU encourages faculty as well as students, interns, and residents to publish their work on this platform. The first two issues are already published and available on the BVMJ website. Both issues have one Editorial Article, three Case Reports and five Original Articles.
  • CSRI-DST Call for proposalsIn February 2021, CSRI-DST invited a call for proposals for multifaceted areas like emotions, language, memory, visual perception and cognition, thinking & reasoning, social cognition, decision making, artificial intelligence, computational modeling of cognitive processes, psychology, cognitive development, and other important components derived from work in neurosciences, philosophy, linguistics, anthropology, etc. The document was shared with the faculty. The review meeting was convened on 11th February, 2021. Three proposals were presented and discussed. CRPU members gave their inputs. One proposal was submitted.
  • ICMR Tuberculosis proposals reviewIn March 2021, ICMR invited a Call for a proposal in Tuberculosis. The document was shared with the faculty. The meeting was convened on Thursday, 10th March 2021. Three proposals were presented one by one. CRPU members discussed it, suggested changes, and encouraged faculty to send those proposals to ICMR. Four proposals were submitted.
  • ICMR COVID-19 proposals reviewIn June 2021, ICMR invited a call for proposals for COVID-19. The document was shared with the faculty. The meeting was convened on 22-24 June 2021. Eleven proposals were presented one by one. CRPU members discussed it, suggested changes, and encouraged faculty to send those proposals to ICMR. Total 11 proposals were submitted to ICMR.
  • Status of research proposals and research grantsA total ₹ 93, 00,000 budget is approved for the academic year 2021-2022. Out of that, an amount of ₹ 60, 00,000 will be used for in-house funding for research projects. Total 6 in-house research projects have been recommended for approval of funds. Total amount is ₹ 19, 26,244. The first installment of first-year i.e. ₹ 9, 28,269 has been recommended. The remaining ₹ 30, 00,000 (out of the total budget) will be used for other purposes such as stationary, workshops, BVMJ, reimbursement of APC, etc. The two ongoing in-house research projects of CRPU are entitled “COVID-19 among vaccinated persons” and “A cross-sectional study to assess the vaccine intent among 18 to 23-year-olds in Pune City” respectively. These projects don’t need funding.

Case reports, multi-center clinical trials were excluded. The faculty who is corresponding author or among the first three authors were considered. Additionally, part of study must have been conducted in Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to Be) University, Medical College and Hospital. The journals in which the articles were published were arranged as per indexing and preference was given to PubMed, PubMed Central, and Scopus in that order. In the second phase in each indexing system the impact factor of the journal was viewed and ranking was done accordingly. For the third prize, journal site score reported by Scopus was considered. The selection of these three articles was unanimously accepted. The award distribution ceremony was conducted on 17th June 2021 in the Seminar Hall, 4th floor, Bharati Hospital. The Executive Director distributed prizes.
