Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) Medical College, School of Optometry was established in July 1998. The School of Optometry has been constituted under the Faculty of General Surgery and is a part of Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College, Pune. It is presently situated on the ground floor of the Medical College building, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Katraj Dhankawadi Campus, Pune.

In August 2000, the School became the first Institute in India to get affiliate membership of the World Council of Optometry. Many students from Canada, Kenya, Tanzania, Iran, Nepal and Sri Lanka have been admitted to the institute’s Optometry programmes. As of August 2019, 20 batches have completed the course with 490 undergraduate and 70 postgraduate students having graduated. A few of them have taken admission to Universities in England for Masters and Ph.D. courses. One of our gold medalist teaches optometry in an institute in Singapore. Many graduates of our School have found jobs in Middle-East countries. Some students who have graduated from this college have secured admission to M.Optom at universities in Australia and England.

Bachelor of Clinical Optometry is a four-year, full-time programme. The first three years of the programme are devoted to teaching, followed by one year of internship for Clinical training. Indian Optometric Association has approved BVDUMC School of Optometry and it’s Bachelor of Clinical Optometry Programme. In 2003, Bharati Vidyapeeth became the first institute in the country to have started a 2 year Master’s programme in Optometry (M.Optom).

72.	2023	A vision screening camp was organized by Bharati Vidyapeeth Engineering College, Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune in association with National Service Scheme (NSS) by postgraduate students.
73.	2023	A School screening camp was organized by Rotary Club of Pune in association with Community Eye Care Foundation (CECF), at Sane Guruji Primary School, Hadapsar, screened by our students.
74.	2023	A School Screening eye camp was organized by Community Eye Care Foundation (CECF) & Rotary Club of Pune at Chaitanya English School, Rasta Peth, Pune, examination carried out by optometry students.
75.	2023	An Industrial interactive session for II and III Year B. Optom and I and II Year M. Optom students, in association with Carl Zeiss was conducted by Mr. Tarik Mallick, who is currently working as the Regional product specialist for Carl Zeiss, for divisions of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
76.	2023	World Optometry Day 2023 was celebrated by spreading Optometry and eyecare awareness through students planning and executing various events, namely nukkad natak, Mythbusters and surveys, Poster and Model Exhibition and Eye checkups.
77.	2023	An Intercollege Event by EssilorLuxottica was conducted virtually, where all the students participated enthusiastically in Inter-college Opti-fun Virtual quiz and Intra-college Opti-fun Crossword, majority of winners comprised of students from our institute.
