Publications

Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) Medical College, School of Optometry was established in July 1998. The School of Optometry has been constituted under the Faculty of General Surgery and is a part of Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College, Pune. It is presently situated on the ground floor of the Medical College building, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Katraj Dhankawadi Campus, Pune.

In August 2000, the School became the first Institute in India to get affiliate membership of the World Council of Optometry. Many students from Canada, Kenya, Tanzania, Iran, Nepal and Sri Lanka have been admitted to the institute’s Optometry programmes. As of August 2019, 20 batches have completed the course with 490 undergraduate and 70 postgraduate students having graduated. A few of them have taken admission to Universities in England for Masters and Ph.D. courses. One of our gold medalist teaches optometry in an institute in Singapore. Many graduates of our School have found jobs in Middle-East countries. Some students who have graduated from this college have secured admission to M.Optom at universities in Australia and England.

Bachelor of Clinical Optometry is a four-year, full-time programme. The first three years of the programme are devoted to teaching, followed by one year of internship for Clinical training. Indian Optometric Association has approved BVDUMC School of Optometry and it’s Bachelor of Clinical Optometry Programme. In 2003, Bharati Vidyapeeth became the first institute in the country to have started a 2 year Master’s programme in Optometry (M.Optom).

Ranking & Accreditations

The regular high ranking and accreditation provided by NAAC and the Government of India are indicative of the growing popularity of the institute and the high standards that it has achieved with the passage of time.
