ABOUT OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is dedicated to excellence in patient care, academics, and research. Orthodontics is the specialty of dentistry concerned with the diagnosis, prevention, interception, and correction of malocclusion and dentofacial deformities, providing comprehensive treatment for patients of all age groups.
Established in 2007, the department has evolved into one of the premier centres for undergraduate and postgraduate education in orthodontics. With a strong commitment to academic excellence, clinical expertise, and evidence-based practice, the department strives to nurture competent clinicians, researchers, and academicians while delivering the highest standards of patient care.
Our state-of-the-art clinical infrastructure includes 18 fully automated undergraduate dental chairs and a modern, fully air-conditioned postgraduate clinic comprising 21 advanced clinical cubicles, providing an ideal environment for comprehensive clinical training. The department also houses a dedicated undergraduate preclinical laboratory, enabling students to develop fundamental orthodontic skills before entering clinical practice.
The department is equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment planning facilities, including an exclusive clinical photography suite, Dolphin Imaging Software, and the latest Cephalometric Imaging and Analysis Software, ensuring precision in diagnosis, treatment planning, and outcome assessment.
A well-equipped orthodontic laboratory featuring Biostar machine, Hydro-soldering unit, Electro-polisher, Plaster Dispensers, and other advanced laboratory equipment supports high-quality appliance fabrication and clinical care.
Academic activities form the cornerstone of the department. A dedicated seminar hall facilitates daily case presentations, seminars, journal clubs, treatment planning discussions, and scientific deliberations, fostering analytical thinking and evidence-based clinical decision-making.
The department has a team of highly qualified, experienced, and committed faculty members who are passionate about teaching and mentoring. Dedicated faculty for undergraduate teaching ensure that students receive systematic exposure to orthodontic diagnosis, treatment mechanics, appliance design, and clinical applications, thereby developing a strong foundation in the specialty from the early years of dental education.
Postgraduate students benefit from an extensive and diverse clinical exposure, managing a wide spectrum of simple to complex malocclusions using contemporary treatment philosophies and biomechanics. The department emphasizes independent clinical decision-making, critical thinking, and comprehensive patient management, preparing residents to become confident specialists.
As a research-oriented department, we actively promote scientific inquiry and innovation. Faculty members and postgraduate students regularly contribute to national and international peer-reviewed journals, present scientific papers at conferences, and participate in collaborative research projects. The department encourages evidence-based practice and multidisciplinary research that advances orthodontic science and patient care.
The department practices a comprehensive range of contemporary orthodontic techniques and adopts a multidisciplinary approach by closely collaborating with various dental and medical specialties to provide holistic, patient-centred treatment.
