Department of General Surgery

HOD's Message

Now in its 32nd year, the Department of General Surgery was started in the year 1990. Dr. E.K. Bharucha was appointed the first head of the Department. Since then the department has seen a lot of progress in the field of academics, patient care, state of the art facilities and surgical expertise.

Dr. Sudhir Shinde

Department of General Surgery

The PG training was started in the department in 1997 with 5 seats per year. This has also seen an increase in the number of postgraduate seats to 10 seats per year.

Every member of the department is given ample and equal opportunity for self-development. The Department boasts of full time specialized faculty with experience of some senior members of more than 20 years. They have formed the guiding force in shaping the Department.

Continuing the same tradition the Post Graduate training has seen a paradigm shift. There is a stress on hand on training and use of simulation. Compulsory ITLS training has also been incorporated in PG Curriculum.

As HOD my aim will be to give holistically well trained surgeons back to the society.
