About Department

The Department of Pharmacology was established with the aim to provide world-class education in drug design and development, drug delivery, and drug effects to improve overall health outcomes.

It has driven excellence in education as well as medical research. It has state-of-the-art lab facilities to conduct high-quality research. It is a recognized department for post-graduation dedicated to offering MD, M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in Pharmacology. If we speak about the departmental strength, then we have 8 Post-graduate faculties out of which 6 are PG Teachers.

Teaching and Learning Methods

For UG students
  • More than 800 drug samples have been arranged therapeutic system-wise with crisp information in the museum to aid learning.
  • Informative charts on the history of medicine and other topics are available.
  • The laboratory is equipped with computers having informative material/videos uploaded in the systems.
  • The latest equipment for research is available to facilitate research.
  • In addition to routine lectures and tutorials / practicals, students are encouraged to participate in quizzes, rational pharmacotherapy case presentations, the de-addiction centre visits, skit demonstrations, research paper presentations in conferences, etc.
  • With the initiation of CBME programme, many new activities have been initiated such as learning injection techniques using mannequins to ensure acquisition of this essential skills, demonstration of prescription communication by teachers via role play, small group discussions for prescription communication, and study of the AETCOM modules.
  • Objective structured practical examination (OSPE) is conducted to facilitate wider coverage of applied aspects of Pharmacology and to ensure that students actively perform and understand the essential components of the subject.
For PG students
  • Group discussions, seminars, clinical postings to various departments, posting in the clinical research unit, and industry training are encouraged.
  • Students are given opportunities to participate in departmental or funded research projects and present research papers at national and international level conferences.
  • Students are encouraged to demonstrate animal models and experiments to the postgraduates of the Ayurvedic discipline.
