Awareness Program on HIV and AIDS

As a part of the co-curricular activities, which are conducted at regular intervals in Bharati Vidyapeeth School of Optometry, Pune, a programme on Be HIV Positive was conducted in association with Wake Up Pune. This programme was organized on Saturday, 18th July 2009 and was attended by all the students and staff of the School of Optometry, Pune.

Students Clubs

There are different students’ clubs and each of them is responsible for carrying out their respective activity with due diligence. These clubs give the students an opportunity to showcase their talent as well as take responsibility in terms of organising different events.

World Optometry Day

Every 23rd of March, World Optometry Day is celebrated in our institution.

An Exquisite celebration of WOD 2023 consisted of a several events organized and managed by our Optometry students.

At the beginning of the week an awareness campaign via a Nukkad Natak was performed at various locations in and around Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University, Dhankawadi Campus.The two day celebration was conducted at our college, involved a free eye checkup camp at the clinic, both walk-ins and pre- registration through QR codes from the awareness campaign posters were evaluated. A total of 178 patients were screened. An explanatory Exhibition by conducted and managed by students regarding Eye Health awareness and myth busters through Models, charts and posters which led the visitors to be acquainted with Optometry and Eye Care. The visitors were also suggested to fill up survey forms and feedback.

Cultural Activities

The way emphasis is laid on academics and sports, similarly, it is important to uphold one’s culture and tradition. Hence, different cultural events are organized wherein the students get to showcase their talent in terms of art, culture, classical dance, etc.

Acuvue Day Celebration

Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) Medical College, School of Optometry, Pune celebrated "ACUVUE Day” at Bharati Vidyapeeth main auditorium. The program was sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care (JJVC). It was a full day celebration organized by students in relation to Contact Lens related activities – Scientific presentations, Role plays, Quiz and Poster competitions.

At the closing ceremony, the winners were given certificates and cash prizes of Rs.2,000/- as first prize and Rs.1,000/- as second prize. Johnson & Johnson Vision Care also gave ACUVUE Scholarship for academic excellence. This will be given every year to the top three rankers in contact lens subject examinations conducted by the University every year. The top ranker received a cheque of Rs.12,000/-, second received Rs.10,000/- and third received Rs.8,000/- All these students were also given a nice scholarship certificate.

Master Mind In-campus

Master Mind In-campus was conducted by Bausch and Lomb at the college in January 2009. Bausch and Lomb organized an event for certification of the students who had successfully completed the programme. Students from various colleges such as Lotus College of Optometry, Pune, Mumbai and Dr. D.Y. Patil College of Optometry, Pune also joined the ceremony. The programme consists of presentations by the students, interactive role plays on contact lens related topics, debates, and a quiz competition. Students of Bharati Vidyapeeth won the prize for role plays, debates and quiz competition.

Community work

The college conducts vision screening programmes at many schools and colleges to create social awareness about eye health. The college also conducts eye camps at the rural places where eye care practitioners are not available. The college regularly conducts similar eye camps at Dapoli, 280 km from Pune. Students visit and stay in the village for a few days. They screen different institutions and organizations in Dapoli, prescribe glasses and advise them regarding eye care. Students also enjoyed visits to the beaches and Fort after their work. They also took part in various sports.
