AWARENESS SEMINAR ON GENDER SENSITIZATION

Today a fabulous awareness seminar on 'GENDER SENSITIZATION' was organized by BV(DU)School of Optometry, Pune for all the students and staff.

This initiative was taken up by respected In-charge Prof. Amit J. Shinde Sir, with the help of Mr. Boman Bharucha Sir, proprietor A Dinshaw and Co. The guest speaker was Mrs. Farida Pajnigar ma’am, who is a Counselling Psychologist. She is associated with a Pune based center named Body Dynamics and volunteering at Connecting Trust,working in the field of mental health and suicide prevention.This event was hosted by Assistant Prof. Hardeep Kaur ma’am.

During this interactive session the points on understanding of gender equality and existing gender roles,prevailing stereotypes and biases present in society were discussed. The aim of this session wasto create a just society where a person is not discriminatedbased on their gender.

The session began with a welcome speech and introduction of esteemed guest speaker ma’am, followed by an empowering power point presentation accompanied by some interesting and informative videos, which challenged the existing gender-based problems in our society.

Mrs. Farida Pajnigar ma’amhighlighted the importance of education, awareness about these topics and the role of every individual in eradicating these gender-based issues. With some illustrations and mindboggling questions, guest speaker ma’am raised curiosities in the minds of all participants and gave solutions to various challenging situations that we or our peers might come across.

It was overall a very interactive session where students shared their views and opinions, they asked questions and some of them even shared theirpersonal experiences on the matter.

The session also put forward the existing Student Grievance Redressal Cell (SGRC) of the institution, the committee members, the student representative, and the e-mail ID grievances[email protected] was put forward, where issues faced by students in any form can be shared.

The session was a huge success and was concluded by a vote of thanks by In-charge Prof. Amit J. Shinde Sir, where the guests were felicitated with plants.
