DBT – SAHAJ Infrastructure Programme

Objectives

  • To establish a facility for lipidome and methylation analysis from various biological samples
  • To examine the lipidome and methylation patterns in women with preeclampsia and its association with CVD risk
  • To undertake training programmes and provide service for academia and industry

Proposed Facility

High Performance Benchtop Orbitrap LC-MS 240 system: lipidome analysis

It will help to gain an in-depth understanding of the role of lipids (which account for over 100 lipid molecules) and its association with CVD risk

Pyrosequencer

DNA methylation analysis of genes involved in the lipid metabolism and its association with CVD risk

Need for the Proposed Facility

  • Few lipidome/pyrosequencing facilities in India – limited availability and expensive
  • Facilities do not undertake lipidome analysis on clinical samples
  • Human cohort samples are very precious and have biosafety issues
  • IRSHA has established good quality and biosafety systems
  • There is a pressing need to develop this facility to better understand the role of lipids in diseases
