Ph.D. scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase II

Digital India Corporation, Ministry of Electronics and IT, Govt. of India has granted scholarships under the scheme titled “Visvesvaraya PhD scheme for Electronics and IT”. Under this scheme presently admissions are open to PhD Degree program on Full Time/Part Time basis. This is a special scheme with following features:

The National Policy on Electronics (NPE 2012) and the National Policy on Information Technology (NPIT 2012) give special thrust on significantly increasing the number of Ph.D.s in the country to enable India to compete globally. In this regard, Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India has conceived a scheme to enhance the number of PhDs in the Electronic Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) and IT/IT enabled Services (ITES) sector.

Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics & IT was initiated by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in 2014 with the approval of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) with an objective to enhance number of PhDs in ESDM & IT/ITES sectors (Budget: Rs. 466 Crores). PhD seats were allocated to 97 institutions (IITs, NITs, Central and State Universities etc.) in 25 states and 4 Union Territories. Now, 2nd phase of the scheme has been launched with budget of Rs. 481.93 Crores for 9 years targeting:

  • 1000 Full Time PhD Candidates.
  • 150 Part Time PhD Candidates.
  • 50 awardees of “Young Faculty Research Fellowship”.
  • 225 awardees of Post-Doctoral Fellowship.

M.E./M.Tech. in an appropriate area with a minimum 55% of aggregate marks or equivalent grade points.

Ph.D. scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase-I for the year 2015-16 at Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) College of Engineering, Pune-43 :

Under Visvesvaraya Ph.D. scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase-I for the year 2015-16, Bharati Vidyapeeth University College of Engineering has received approval of 2 full-time and 2 part-time Ph.D. candidates for the year 2015-16. The institute has successfully completed Phase-I of the said scheme.

Visvesvaraya Ph.D. scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase-II for the year 2022-23 at Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) College of Engineering, Pune-43 :

Under Visvesvaraya Ph.D. scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase-II for the year 2022-23, Bharati Vidyapeeth University College of Engineering has received approval of 2 full-time Ph.D. candidates for the year 2022-23.

a) Fellowship: Rs. 38,750 per month in 1st & 2nd year and @Rs. 43,750 per month in 3rd, 4th and 5th years of PhD. (support till PhD completion or 5 years whichever is earlier).

b) Reimbursement of Rent (RoR): This component is linked with the fellowship of PhD Candidate. The rate of RoR is 24%, 16% & 8% (of fellowship) for X, Y & Z class cities/towns respectively. The classification of the cities is as per the notification issued by the Ministry of Finance for the reimbursement of HRA.

c) Institutional Overheads: An amount of Rs. 25,000/Year/Full-time PhD candidate for support duration of PhD candidate to be given to the institution.

d) Research Contingency Grant Support: An amount of Rs. 1,20,000/Year/Full-time PhD candidate for support duration of PhD candidate.
