About Department

The Department of Community Medicine deals with the communities and is committed to educating medical students to enable them to identify and measure the health-related needs of sick people. It teaches them the principles of planning and administration for meeting those needs and lays a special focus on research and training in the field.

Academic Programmes

We offer a plethora of academic programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We also offer a fellowship programme and a certificate course. In addition to this, we offer programmes in allied health disciplines as well as non-health disciplines.

Teaching-Learning Process

Our teaching-learning process includes:

  • Defined Specific Learning Objectives (SLOs), Gantt chart of UG & PG teaching, Bridge course for PG, and Research Methodology for UG & PG.
  • Flexible Methodology: Seminar, Quiz, Scenario-based learning, and small group revision series.
  • Learner Centered Approach: Research Projects
  • Community Intervention: Health Education - role play, Puppet Show, Health Camp, and celebration of Public Health Day.
  • Educational visits to Public health lab, Water purification plant, Sewage treatment plant, Milk dairy, Leprosy hospital, and PHC, Anganwadi.

Other Activities

The department have hosted a state conference in 2015 and number of CME and guest lectures. The faculty have also provided consultancy for research. There are MOUs and collaborations with various NGO and CSRs as well as Pune Municipal corporation for work in field practice area of the centers. The faculty is MMC observer as well as reviewer to the reputed journals. The faculty is author for few textbook.

  • National Health Programmes
  • Certificate Course is provided in ‘Biostatistics in Medical Research.’
  • Screening of Cervical Pathologies is done using Smart Scope (IT) at Rural Health Training Centre, Lavale.
  • From June 2018 to September 2019, 197 patients were screened in the catchment area of RHTC Lavale and outdoor camps held in the villages under PHC-Mutha.
  • 99 patients were provided telemedicine by specialists and 8 patients with CIN were referred to the OBGYN department of Bharati Hospital.
