Overview

Bharati Vidyapeeth Dental College and Hospital, Pune was established in 1989 to meet the growing aspirations of the students to obtain professional education in the field of dentistry. Initially it was affiliated with the University of Poona but later on became a constituent unit of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University).

The college has been recognized by the Dental Council of India and presently, one undergraduate and eight postgraduate courses are being offered at the institute. A Ph.D. programme has also been included.

The dental college building is housed in 1, 32,308 sq. ft. with extension of 75363 sq. ft. as a PG wing. There is ample space for clinics and laboratories and they are equipped with modern equipment and materials. There is an advanced Operation Theatre Complex of around 900 beds at the Bharati Hospital. Aiming to provide the best training to the students, there are also ceramic fabrication systems, laser equipment, research microscopes and digital imaging systems. Enabling the students and the faculty to get the best, there is a large library with over 5,000 books along with national and international journals. A comprehensive collection of resources with internet facility in the library and teaching-learning aids and material in every department form the backbone of the undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes.

Our department laboratories are well equipped with sophisticated instruments and relevant research facilities. Research funding of Rs.93.8 lakh has been received by our department from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP), and Bharati Vidyapeeth( Deemed To Be University) in the last five years. Our students and faculty have published 84 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and have filed 3 patents.

A highly interactive learning environment is a unique feature of the training programme. Students are provided basic training in basic medical and dental sciences, scientific literature, research and appraisal research methodology, biostatistics, evidence-based methods, computer applications, presentation skills and professional ethics. There are a large number of patients with varied pathology which our students get as clinical material. This gives them the confidence that is required to carry out independent speciality practice.

In pursuit to raise standards of education and research, the college boasts of having a well-qualified, experienced and dedicated teaching staff, advanced teaching learning methods and equipment and technologies, value-based education to students with feedback systems, extracurricular activities and N.S.S. activities for overall development. Thus, the mission of the institution “Social Transformation through Dynamic Education” is achieved to protect the interest of all the stakeholders.

The fact that the Dental College and Hospital has made a mark for itself and has emerged as a pioneering institute in this part of the country and in the field of dental education is evident from the fact that the all the graduates have made a name for themselves in private practice, employment and higher studies not only in India but also abroad as well. The emphasis is on simulated and real-life experience-based learning.
