Overview

Dr. Patangrao Kadam, the founder of Bharati Vidyapeeth, established Poona College of Pharmacy in 1981 after realizing the need to train students in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Before the establishment of the Poona College of Pharmacy, there were no Pharmacy colleges in this region, and thus the institute is a pioneer in this field. Earlier affiliated to the University of Pune, the college is now a constituent unit of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University).

Under the dynamic guidance of Dr. Shivajirao Kadam, the first Principal for 25 years, the college has developed academic excellence and become one of the best Pharmacy colleges in the country. Poona College of Pharmacy is a grant-in-aid institute that offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi has approved all of the degrees offered by the college.

A testimony to the high academic excellence of the Poona College of Pharmacy is the approval by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and the recognition by the University Grants Commission under Sections 2(f) and 12(B).

Earlier, there was no separate faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the University of Pune. However, due to the growing importance of Pharmacy education, Dr. Shivajirao Kadam, Vice-Chancellor of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) and former Principal took great initiative and interest in creating a separate faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Following in the footsteps of the college, a separate faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences has also been created for the Bharati Vidyapeeth University.
