Overview

Established in June 1978, Yashwantrao Mohite College is the first of the initial three institutes created by Bharati Vidyapeeth. Currently, the college is one of the constituent units of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University.

The college is accredited with NAAC ‘A’ grade in 2004, re-accredited with an ‘A’ grade in 2011 and for the third cycle in 2017, re-accredited with an ‘A+’ grade. Yashwantrao Mohite College offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in various disciplines of Arts, Science, Commerce and Computer Science. These include B.A., B.Sc., B.Sc. (Computer Science), B.Com., M.A. (English), M.Sc. (Analytical Chemistry), M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry), M.Sc. (Microbiology), M.Sc. (Computer Science) and M.Com. degrees.

The college is a recognized Research Centre for Ph.D. degrees in English, Economics, Marathi, Geography, Sociology, Political Science, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Microbiology, Mathematics, Computer Science and Commerce. A special feature of the college is that, along with degree courses, the college also conducts two diploma programmes - Diploma in Banking, and Diploma in Marketing. Both of these diplomas have proved to be of great help to the students for their job placements.

In addition, two UGC-sponsored, career-oriented courses in Spoken English, and Identification and Conservation of Medicinal Plants have been introduced to enhance the employability skills of the students. To promote the idea of national integration, the college has offered admissions to students from 29 states of the country. The college has also gained international status by providing admissions to students from 32 countries. Keeping student welfare as the prime concern, the college has organized several activities to support and enhance the capabilities of the students.

Some of the activities that are conducted annually include publication of the annual number Yashobharati, arranging the Cultural Festival ‘Sanskriti’, conducting the National Level General Knowledge Test, and the organization of National seminars and workshops. Along with the academic achievements, The Government of Maharashtra has honoured Yashwantrao Mohite College with the 'Best NSS UNIT Award'.

The Programme Officer has received the 'Best NSS Programme Officer Award', and four students have received the 'Best NSS Volunteer Award'. Creating landmarks in the history of the sports department, twelve students have been felicitated with the ‘Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Award’, which is the highest honour in the field offered by the state government.

The students have also participated in various events as part of the National teams. Major facilities of the college include hostels for male and female students. state-of-art laboratories, an excellent library, healthcare centre, seminar hall, commerce laboratory, indoor and outdoor game facilities and gymnasium.
