Salient Features

It was in the year 1978 that Bharati Vidyapeeth, the parent body entered in higher education with the establishment of Yashwantrao Mohite college of Arts, Science and Commerce which was named after renowned social thinker, Yashwantrao Mohite, the college has been a pioneer in quality education and has a number of unique qualities and features to its credit.

The salient features of the college are:

  • The college started with 122 students on 1st June 1978.
  • The college is recognized under 2(f) in 1981 and 12(B) in 1986 by UGC, New Delhi.
  • Till 1996, the college was affiliated to the then Pune University, Pune and then on 26th April, 1996, it became a constituent unit of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Pune.
  • This might be the only Arts, Science and Commerce College in India where students from 32 countries have enrolled during the last six years, thus, attaining international status.
  • Active International Students Cell to cater to the diverse needs of international students.
  • The college runs 04 undergraduate courses. These are B.A., B.Sc., B.Sc. Computer Science and B. Com., and 06 Postgraduate courses like M.A. English, M.Sc. Analytical Chemistry, M.Sc. Organic Chemistry, M.Sc. Microbiology, M.Sc. Computer Science and M.Com. as well as 02 Diploma courses: Diploma in Banking and Diploma in Marketing and Career Oriented Certificate courses in Spoken English, Identification and Conservation of Medicinal Plants, Landscape Designing and Gardening along with Certificate courses in Banking and Marketing.
  • The college is also a recognized centre for Ph.D. research in 13 subjects.
  • 23 Ph.D., 08 M. Phil. and 09 faculty members pursuing their Ph.D. research, 18 are recognized research guides.
  • 09 Major and 06 Minor Research Projects have been completed while 10 Major and 05 Minor are ongoing Research Projects in the college.
  • 12 of our staff members have been awarded with Best Teacher Awards by Pune Municipal Corporation.
  • The principal of the college has received Best Teacher Award from the Government of Maharashtra.
  • 27 teaching and non-teaching staff members have received Seva Gaurav Puraskar from Bharati Vidyapeeth and Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune.
  • Since 2011-12, the faculty members have published 178 research papers in reputed national and international journals and 155 research papers presented in conferences.
  • The college organized 06 international and 32 national knowledge events in the last five years.
  • The college has been honored with ‘Best NSS UNIT Award’, ‘Best NSS Programme Officer Award’ and 05 students have received ‘Best NSS Volunteer Award’ by the Government of Maharashtra.
  • During the last five years, 09 of our sport persons have represented the college at International sports competitions. More than 400 students have participated in various sports events and have won 43 gold, 43 silver and 40 bronze medals.
  • 12 of our students have been felicitated with ‘Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Award’, the highest honor in the field of sports offered by the State Government and our students have represented the college in several National and International sports events.
  • Along with Academics, curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, the organization of knowledge events, innovation, women empowerment, inclusivity, mentoring, etc. are some of the prominent features of the institute.
  • The college tries to empower women through various activities organized by the Ladies Association of the College, i.e., LAY.
  • Publication of the annual number Yashobharati, organization of cultural fest Sanskriti and conducting National Level General Knowledge Test are some of our regular activities.
  • A digital library with OPAC, INFLIBNET, DELNET, N-list having 45606 books, 60 print journals, 1, 05,000 e-books and 12100 e-journals.
  • Prevention of Sexual Harassment Cell and Anti-ragging Cell to create a conducive atmosphere on the campus.
  • Adoption of Enterprise Resource Planning for better synchronization.
  • Implementation of Lecture Capture System to step ahead in digitized learning.
  • Green Audit for environment awareness.
  • Adequate and incremental infrastructure with state-of-the-art science laboratories in separate buildings.
  • Maintenance of 02 botanical gardens with 32 rare and endangered species of plants.
  • Financial support through fee concessions to needy and eligible students from the parent institution.
  • More than 300 dignitaries and experts of national and international repute have visited the college on various occasions.
  • Management of a functional Internal Quality Assurance Cell since 2004.
