Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing department works to improve health care for women everywhere, by setting standards for clinical practice, providing nursing students with training and lifelong learning, and advocating for women’s health care worldwide.

The Department is one of the Clinical Nursing Specialty departments of the institute. The department has developed from an entry-level position to a distinct specialty. Our department deals with Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing, nursing research, nursing education and management for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Department policy is directed toward the provision of quality professional services and performs the task holistically with reference to the women, neonates and their families. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing is one among the six departments of Faculty of Nursing endowed with the infrastructure required to learn the full spectrum of Obstetrics and Gynecological nursing care for both the undergraduate and postgraduate students. The faculty of OBG Nursing department believes that, the undergraduate and postgraduate programme prepares nurses for leadership positions in nursing and health fields who can function as specialist nurse practitioners, consultants, administrators, educationists and investigators in a wide variety of professional setting in meeting the national priority and the changing needs of the society.

Departmental activities

Department organizes faculty and students exchange program of School of Health, Care and Social Welfare, Malardalen University, Sweden (for a period of 12 weeks), to attend lectures and seminars in different theoretical aspects and conduct study visits related to obstetrics and gynecological settings. Observes all important Days, by conducting exhibition, scientific session, quiz, role play, debates, Health education & cultural programme. Conducts webinar, CNE, and Guest lecture for students and faculty. Outreach programs at school for adolescent girls. Execute research and innovative activities for social and professional development. Render quality prenatal nursing care to the mother and newborn as a single unit based on midwifery model. Incorporate nursing process through logical / critical thinking and decision making in various obstetrics and gynecological settings. Events and days observed includes international women’s day, national safe motherhood day, international midwives day, world breast feeding week and breast cancer awareness month.
