Pediatric nursing is part of the nursing profession. The contemporary understanding of child health nursing is the science of child care, preventive as well as curative.

Therefore, child health nursing is concerned with the health of infants, children and adolescents, their growth and development and their attaining full potential as adults. The department of Child health nursing, BV (DU) College of Nursing, Navi Mumbai functions for the nursing students to acquire.

The department provides student-centered teaching and learning in conducive atmosphere that helps the students to gain confidence in their nursing knowledge and skills related to child care. The department is concerned with training the students in developing the knowledge and skills required to respond to health care needs of infants and children and their family in a variety of settings. Importance is given to the evidence based practice and safeguarding the health of child and the family. Students get the opportunity to identify the needs of children and provide comprehensive care. 

Departmental activities

It includes knowledge enrichment practices by: video assisted learning, handouts, guest lecture attend workshop, webinar, field visit concept mapping, case discussion etc, visits to child guidance clinic (Aakaar child development centre, Seawoods), Human milk bank (B.J. Wadia), Centre for mentally, physically, socially challenged, National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities Kharghar), orphanage school to SEAL ashram/Girija welfare association, Panvel. Helen Keller Institute for Deaf & Deaf blind Ghansoli. Conduct Nutrition lab in group of 5-6 students on the various topics such as PEM, Nephrotic syndrome, Diarrhoea, Complementary feeding, Lactose intolerance, etc. Make use of various play articles as per the age group. Demonstration of various procedures such as physical examination, growth and development, neonatal assessment, neonatal reflexes, oral medication I/M injection etc. Area of research: Developmental Disabilities. Child development assessment, Under-five clinics, Complimentary therapies, Adolescents Health, Child guidance, Palliative care for cancer child. The faculty along with students celebrates or organizes various health day events such as: National Child health day, National Girl Child Day, International Day of child with Disabilities, World Cerebral Palsy (CP) Day, World breastfeeding week etc
