Report On Celebration of World Mental Health Day 2022

On 10th October 2019, we the department of mental health nursing observed the world mental health day with the theme “Make Mental Health & Wellbeing for All a Global Priority”. By adopting the guidelines of World Federation for Mental Health [WFMH] and World Health Organization [WHO] and with all the support from Dean/Principal Dr. Mrs Nilima Bhore Mam, Teaching and non-teaching faculties of college of Nursing and the Authorities of the Bharati Hospital. The various celebration activities were organized by involving the students of 2nf yr PG MHN specialty students, 2nd yr PB BSc Nursing and the 3rdyr Basic BSc Nursing.

Inauguration

The formal inauguration of celebration was carried out at 10.15am at Bharati Hospital OPD wing by the dignitaries and invitees namely Hon. Dr. H M Kadam, Regional Director, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Dr. Sara Dhanawade, Dean Bharati Medical College, Sangli, Dr. Anil Joshi, Medical Superintendent, Bharati Hospital, Sangli, Dr. Nitin Patil, Senior psychiatrist, Bharati Hospital, Sangli, Mr. Dasharat Sawant, Clinical Psychologist, Bharati Hospital, Sangli, Dr. (Mrs) Nilima Bhore, Dean/Principal. Bharati Vidyapeeth (DU) College of Nursing, Sangli, Dr. Sarawsati Herwade, Nursing Superintendent Bharati Hospital, Sangli at 10.15 am at Bharati Hospital, Sangli.

The activities carried out were,

  • Health education was organized at the OPD Lounge of Bharati Hospital, Sangli. By SY MSc and TY BSc Nursing students through posters exhibition on ‘Identifying the early signs of Mental illness, activities to promote mental health & wellbeing, management of digital exposure to maintain mental energy and asking for help in case of mental health and well-being issues’.

The information was displayed and available to all the public/people visiting the OPD’s of Bharati Hospital. About 180 beneficiaries were benefited with the information given by the students and simultaneously the doubts raised by them were clarified by the students and faculty available.

  • The Role play (Skit) was performed by TY BSc Nursing students at same venue with emphasis on importance of recognising the mental health issues and stressors at early and prevention of complex psychiatric disorders in later life.

While addressing to the gathering Dr. Nitin Patil and Mr. Dasharat Swant explained the different types of Mental illness exists at every age group, their nature of illness, and essentiality of mental health screening for normal individual as routine health screening. The event was attended by 60 beneficiaries. And expressed the worth of the program to them in the later half of the event.

  • The SY MSc (N) students had organized the distribution of eatables to the psychiatric patients at Psychiatric unit of Bharati Hospital, Sangli in presence of the Nursing Superintendent Dr. Saraswati Herwade and the Nursing unit In charge Mr. Abraham Samudre, and Consultant psychiatrists, the Grade I & II residents of psychiatry Department, Bharati Hospital, Sangli.

The above events were witnessed by the teaching faculty of BVDU, CON, Sangli and were co-ordinated by Faculty of MHN Dept. Dr. Bahubali J Geddugol, Associate Professor, HOD and Mrs. Akkamma Berigeri, Clinical Instructor, Mr. Samson Kamble Clinical Instructor, the overall program was hosted by Mrs. Milka Devraj and Mrs. Shefali Daruwala, SY MSc Nursing students.

The event was also held at Sangalwadi urban community area Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College Hospital, Urban Health Centre by SY PB BSc Nursing students -

  • Organizing the psychoeducation through street play (skit) on ‘Mental Health & Wellbeing among community residents and myths & stigma attached with Mental illness’.

  • Displaying slogans suggested by WFMH through placards.
  • Total of more than 100 beneficiaries witnessed the educational activity and oral feedback was obtained from them. The event was piloted in the supervision of Mr. Rajesh Gaikwad, Assistant professor and Mr. Narayan G, Assistant professor MHN Dept.

These above activities were concluded by 3.00pm by congratulating the students for their efforts and active involvement in all the events.
